no, i did not stop studying because i believe the jehovah's witnesses are a 'cult', i left due to the minor beliefs that i hold that remain separate from the organization.

i called my elder who is still an amazing man and great counselor, affirming that i do not wish to continue my studying.

I remember when I was a teenager and went to my first meeting, I was a hippie who just cut his hair, been thru some bad experiences with the law, was trying to answers life's hardest questions, wet behind the ears just graduated high school, and completely disillusioned with the government indoctrination all the way through high school and the Vietnam war and my ass possibly getting drafted. I was ripe for someone to come and offer an easy answer to life's hardest dam questions. I was nieve, gullible, and open for cult indoctrination by a bunch of nice people who love bombed the shit out of me.

After 29 years of captivity by the Watchtower Corporation's religious authority I was disfellowshipped for "Speaking Against The Organization" a charge to which I could offer no defense because the charge was so ridiculous and hypocritical.

Nice people under control of a bunch of religious fanatics is my observation.

Don't trust 'religious experience' as evidence that one has found the true religion, these experiences can be brought on by various means, so don't believe it a sign that one is born again and destined for everlasting life.

Jehovah's witnesses are very nice to new persons attending meetings, it's called love bombing, it's what mind control cults do to keep a the person coming to meetings but once you get baptized the gloves come off so to speak.

Well happy to have on board I sure hope you enjoy your stay here.

Your motives sound reasonable, but I must warn you that the Watchtower Corporation beliefs that the Bible's should be taken literally and that their interpretation of scripture the only right one,, highly flawed due to their delusional state brought one by a god complex. The claim of The Watchtower corporation that they are God's mouth piece and God's only earthly organization seem highly suspect and to a very large extent 'wishful thinking'.

The reason why they forbid a higher education to it's members is to keep them ignorant and under their control psychologically.

Actually no. Most of them don't agree with all the rules, but submit because of that very threat.

I think that hits the nail on the head, and may be the final nail in the Governing Body's coffin(I know overly optimistic). I hope somebody wins a case it would be so exciting. There has got to be away to nail these suckers who have been doing harm under the privilege of being classified as being a religion. I hope you can crack this nut.

The 14th amendment(US) was made after the civil war and had the freed slaves primarily in mind.

I would think that making the disfellowshipping elders the primary target of a slander lawsuit, might work. Their kangaroo style secret court could be highlighted as extremely cruel and a total mockery of justice that lead to your name being announced as a member who must be shunned by all Jehovah's world wide as a serious evil doer. Might get a few thousand, and send shockwaves through the JW community especially the elders.

I think you may be on to something Steph. There got to be a way to get around this freedom of religion thing and hold these guy accountable some way.

The way I look at it give protection for a religion to teach and believe what ever they want but if they teach murder is ok, then hold them accountable for abusing their religious privileges of freedom, when they cause harm to the tax paying citizens, such as the secret kangaroo court system called a judicial committee where a member is humiliated when they reject Organizational teaching which are clearly based on the mental illness of, delusional thinking, and a god complex, not to mention a vindictive spirit towards anybody that points out any errors they may have in the teaching and delusions with immediate disfellowshipping no questions asked..

I think society in general is evolving greater sensitivity to these issues and now may be the time for something like this to work.

With all the psychological stuff that is known about how cult operate and how they abuse people I think it should get easier and easier to make a case against the Watchtower Corporation's unfair practices to keep it's members captive to their thought control.
